Ode to Daylight Savings Time

Although I deeply respect Mr. Franklin and understand why he thought up Daylight Savings and admire him for his foresight and ability to rationally think around problems, I HATE Daylight Savings Time. Seriously. The only good thing about DST is that extra hour of sleep we are granted with one day each fall. I love that extra hour of sweet respite. But then, they take it away from you in the spring!! I personally need all the beauty sleep I can get, and it's just not fair you give something and then take it away. Its absolutely rude if you ask me.

Right now, it's just past 3 pm and it's already getting grey in Chicago. Dark will have sufficiently fallen when I leave for the train at 5 pm, for street lights to be on. It will be pitch-black when I arrive at home at 6:05 pm. Seriously. that is wrong. Very very wrong.

Then there is the problem of a little game called "what time is it where you are??" I don't like this game. It's not a fun game. I'm 2 hours off East Coast time, or is it 1 hour? 2 hours off California/ West Coast time. But Hawaii doesn't change. Arizona doesn't change. Does Colorado? I just don't know. What is Mountain time anyway -- and do you have to leave on a Mountain for Mountain time to apply to you? And Indiana -- don't get me started! Part of it is Chicago time, part Kentucky time. Some of the state changes, some doesn't. Am I 2 hours off from my mom's time or 1? Is it too late to call my sister and talk to the girls? Yes, its dinner time there or bath time or bed time. Are you awake yet? no it's too early in Chicago! When can I actually talk to my family that it isn't a meal time or a bed time?

So, Mr. Franklin, thank you for all your contributions to Ameria and quite frankly, other nations as well. You are amazing, I especially like your little half-glasses, they are just too cute! I really appreciate the fact you didn't wear a wig, natural is always better. Bald is beautiful! But take your DST and shove it up your hoo-hoo, because I don't like it. Not one bit.

hahaha. Every DST season, I have to explain to my family the time difference. We do not change, but IN (as you know) does. So...
half of the year there's a 4 hour difference, the other half it's 5.

Then there's the problem with friends. Some are in Idaho, some are in IN, most are on the East Coast. So....
half the year I can talk to them during my designed talk time (drive to work in the AM), the other half of the year, I cannot because they're still in work (not lunch).

Boo. Boo, I say.

I am so glad to hear you say you don't like it. My in-laws love it (Colorado does change) and I don't get it. Seriously they argued with me that they actually gain more daylight in the summer, ummm no, it is the same amount of daylight just the hours you get to enjoy it are different, DST does not actually cause the sun to stay up longer. I grew up in AZ and never had experienced it and I tend to think we are one of the smarter states for not playing the DST game. I experienced DST for the first time ever last year while in Cali, I am so glad I experienced the fall back, the spring forward would have just made me grumpy!

It took me almost the whole week last week to get accustomed to the change. I hate how dark it is by the time I get home. At least, it is a little bit lighter in the mornings when walking to the train.
