Yesterday we had our final set of fingerprints. It was at the local USCIS branch/field office for Immigration. This should be our last set. We had a set at the local police (10 card) which was then sent to the FBI for a second background check (evidently, neither of us have a record, which was a huge relief.) We then each had biometrics prints (computerized, no ink), but it ends up since we paid for the prints, they could not be used by DCFS. So, we had to go back for another set, which we did not pay for (NO, we did not get a refund of the $36/each.) This time, we had more sensative biometric prints for the Dept of Immigration.
Now, call me crazy, but my prints haven't changed in the past 3 months. I suppose the argument could be made that they need to run the prints again, in case I committed a crime during the past three months, but couldn't they simply run the prints again? Why another set, and another, and another?
Of course, we had to pay each and everytime we were printed. so, was this about differnt gov't departments not sharing information, or about each department wanting their piece of our adoption-money-pie?
I know, I should not get frustrated by the paperwork and redtape. But it seems to me, there are millions of children who need a home, and Gregg & I just want to be parents, and why does it have to be so hard. I do appreciate that they have to weed out the crazies, but my gosh! don't they take this process too far? Isn't there a line between making sure they are sending the kids into good homes, and kids languishing in an orphanage?
Okay -- after typing that, I feel better. I need to focus on the families that have changed programs and done all of this twice, and the China families that are waiting years and years for a referral.
ALL THAT MATTERS IS WE ARE UNITED WITH OUR CHILD. Repeat again, ALL THAT MATTERS IS WE ARE UNITED WITH OUR CHILD. This difficult journey will only make our time with our child that much sweeter.

Just wanted to say hi. We are with CHI as well. I kept the Yahoo e-mail i got when you posted that you were a part of the group and i meant to drop a line then to welcome you, but totally forgot. So, now I am cleaning out my inbox and came across that! Whew!
Anyway, totally understand what you are going through, because we went through the craziness this past spring. I totally agree, can the government not share our fingerprints with all the little departments that need them???
oh well, the end is worth the means

The fingerprints are so frustrating! I don't get why they can't share. Also, ours expire in January and it doesn't look like we will travel before then so we must be reprinted. I don't get how fingerprints expire.
I know it will be worth it in the end, but sometimes all the hoops can be just so frustrating.
I so understand your frustration. I think this is the 4th or 5th time, we were fingerprinted, as of the day before Labor Day weekend. Did you go to the USCIS office in Naperville? We went to Waukegan.
Yes, it will be that much sweeter when we finally get our child with all the crazy hoops we have to jump through.
Also were you at Ogilvie train station about 4:40 pm on Wednesday. I was running tomy train and had to slow down to keep from crashing into someone who was heading to the restrooms from the back I thought it might be you, but if I had stopped to ask, I'd have missed the train and was really in a rush to make that train that night?
I need to add your blog to my link list!
I hear ya re: fingerprints. Whatta pain. Why can't FBI and CIS work together?
We just received our FBI clearance in the mail today for our second adoption. Yeah, like why did they need another set? They don't keep a file on us, seriously?
Some things need changed!
Look forward to following your journey a little closer -

I am SO feeling your frustration today!! We are still waiting for our change of country I 171 H. We have made phone calls but no one would return our calls. Then today we scheduled an appt. and were told it should be here next week. We will see!! I will be a lot nicer person to deal with once it arrives!! We have been fingerprinted now 6 or 7 times now. I think I have lost count. :) I am praying very hard this is our last time before we get him.
